STICHTING VROUW EN MUZIEK PRESENTS

Female composers in the project Around St. Petersburg

Project description:

This time the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble (MCME) makes an accent on the female music and brings it to the North region of Russia. “Around St. Petersburg” is the part of the whole project by the ensemble: the first part took place in September this year in Amsterdam in the Gaudeamus Music Week, and then in St. Petersburg during the Days of Dutch Culture. New works by Dutch and Russian composers, especially written for the MCME and devoted to the 300-years anniversary of St. Petersburg, make the program so special. The program in each city of the Around St. Petersburg Project varies: local composers as well as Russians classic are programmed. Most of the concerts are part of the significant international music festivals: Moscow Autumn in Moscow, Sound Ways in St. Petersburg and Rachmaninov International Festival in Veliky Novgorod. Two more concerts will take place in the cities of the Karelia Region, it’s capital Petrozavodsk and in Kondopoga. The Dutch composer Astrid Kruisselbrink, who wrote a work especially for the MCME, will accompany the ensemble in that trip, give presentions at the concerts and meet local composers and musicologists.
